About
Karate Federation of Nigeria (KFN) – Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is the official technological arm of the Karate Federation of Nigeria, dedicated to modernizing the sport through innovation, digital transformation, and data-driven development.
Our mission is to harness the power of technology to support athletes, coaches, officials, and organizers in creating a more efficient, transparent, and globally competitive karate environment in Nigeria.
Pioneering the Future of Karate in Nigeria
The journey toward digital transformation in Nigerian karate began in 2017, when Sensei Suleiman Bakare initiated the use of electronic scoring systems in local karate competitions; 1st Silas Agara karate championship in Package B indoor sports hall of the MKO Abiola stadium, Abuja. This bold step marked a pivotal shift from manual judging to a more accurate, fair, and modern approach to scoring matches.
Sensei Bakare’s vision was soon joined by Sensei Tron Eziora, a highly respected athlete with a deep understanding of both the technical and competitive aspects of the sport. Together, they laid the groundwork for integrating technology into tournament operations.
They were further supported by Sensei Olusegun I. Abode, who brought technical and strategic insights that strengthened the team’s efforts. This trio of visionaries collaborated to introduce, implement, and refine the first use of electronic scoring in Nigeria—setting a precedent for the future.
Our Role Today
KFN ICT continues to build on this legacy by:
Managing electronic scoring systems for national events
Training officials and athletes on ICT integration in karate
Developing digital platforms for registration, ranking, and results
Supporting livestreaming and media coverage of tournaments
Ensuring data integrity and performance analytics for all stakeholders
Today we are able to kick start an event at the fastest possible time through an admixture of semi-automated approach in an adjust to the harsh realities presented by the target audience.
The ICT is able to deploy the Video Review (VR) technology to the advantage of the KFN Karate system.
The ICT has its presence on the website (www.kfn.com.ng), YouTube channel, Instagram and the Facebook for better outreach.
Looking Forward
As we look to the future, KFN ICT remains committed to pushing boundaries and setting standards for the digital evolution of martial art in Africa. From grassroots competitions to international qualifiers, our goal is to ensure that Nigerian karate remains on the cutting edge of technological advancement.
